Ploughshares Emerging Writer’s Contest

Leila’s poem “Confession” won the 2016 Ploughshares Emerging Writer’s Contest! Judge Marianne Boruch wrote, “This poet has managed both to honor and upset convention in a most kickass-lively way.” Her poem will appear in the winter issue.

Leila’s poem “Muslim Girlhood” was awarded third place in Narrative Magazine’s Eighth Annual Poetry Contest!


Best of the Net

Two of Leila’s poems have been nominated for Sundress Publications’ Best of the Net: “While Reading the News About Orlando, I Hear the Call to Prayer,” published in Rattle, and “Beginning,”published in American Literary Review.
